About

Crypto Poetry is the community for poets creating NFT crypto poetry to share their work. Often, crypto poets sell their work across many different NFT marketplaces including OpenSea, Rarible, Nifty Gateway, and more. It can be time consuming trying to follow the latest trends and releases across all these different platforms, so we created a one stop shop. We at Crypto Poetry host the largest and most diverse collection of NFT poetry available on the market today. Whether you prefer to collect the trending pieces or have a knack for the new and avant-garde, Crypto Poetry is your oyster to explore.

We are currently accepting new poets to share their work here! Contact us or chat with us on Discord.

What is an NFT?

A non-fungible token (NFT) is a digital token stored on a blockchain that certifies a digital asset to be unique and therefore not interchangeable. NFTs can be used to represent items such as photos, videos, audio, and other types of digital files. While access to the original file is not restricted and copies of these digital items are available for anyone to obtain, NFTs are tracked on blockchains to provide the owner with a proof of ownership of the original.

Ok, so what do NFTs have to do with art and poetry?

The original trending NFT items that are now reaching new levels of heat are jpegs. These include crypto punks, bored apes, penguins, even images of pet rocks. Some of these are selling for upwards of a million dollars. Hell, even an image of a pet rock fetched half a million dollars recently.

The main characteristics which set these NFTs aside from others are that 1) They are part of a collection or community 2) Each member of the collection has slightly different characteristics and 3) They are scarce. For example, each crypto punk has a slightly different hair style and clothing. Each penguin is a different color. The rarer the trait of an item in a collection, the more collectable and valuable it becomes. Think of them as the digital trend of Pok√©mon cards. People love being part of a community collecting novelty together. It sets them apart from everyone else. It gives them something to become excited about. And it’s interesting to pursue.

While the first wave of NFTs are based primarily on their novelty and collectability, current trends in NFTs are focusing more on artistic quality. Poetry fits that demand perfectly. Poets all over the world are now creating verses set in beautiful digital imagery. Some of these poems and imagery have even been generated by AI, marking another first in artistic creation. Of course, some have noted that these digital works of art can be copied and pasted at no cost – so why bother to pay the price for the NFT at all? Yet, analogue art collection works in the exact same way. Anyone can have a copy of a Monet. Only one person can own the original.

Cool, but why should I buy a crypto poem?

Maybe you’re an art appreciator, in which case the reasoning is straightforward. You like to own pieces of art which give you enjoyment and greater appreciation of the human condition. Or maybe you’re a technologist and early adopter who is excited about being part of the dawning of a new digital era of art. Maybe you’re drawn to the community which owning NFTs place you into. Perhaps you’re even a speculator who believes the prices of these NFTs will rise in the future and you can make a buck or two out of buying and holding these.

Whatever your personal reasons are, you would probably like it if the prices of these poetry NFTs will go up over time. After all, everyone would rather own something valuable! I’ll briefly discuss 1) The viability of NFTs in general and 2) The potential of poetry NFTs in particular.

NFTs in general have a wide variety of uses. The most practical use of an NFT is to verify ownership of something, either digital or real world. In the future, your property deed could be an NFT. Your car title could be an NFT. A music streaming service could use NFTs. This being said, what’s the point then of using NFTs as art? Well, once NFTs become adopted into commonplace household usage because of their practical nature, the very first NFTs minted will become pieces of history, little reminders of the beginning of a powerful innovation. And since a lot of them carry art on them, they will become even more collectable and sought after! Museums are certainly proof of the fact that humans highly prize owning pieces of history, so you won’t want to miss out on the chance of owing one yourself.

On the crypto poetry front, it’s been good news. The price and popularity of poetry NFTs has been steadily increasing. In recent days, a poem sold on Nifty Gateway for $75,000! Poetry NFTs are a perfect combination of words and graphical design. Because they often feature elaborate visuals, they’re tangential to the trending digital art pieces, yet the sentiment of their words is something truly unique. They carry a beauty in brevity, a feeling contained in a small space easily stampable through an NFT. Poetry is naturally suited to be an NFT, and people are quickly realizing this. This is why poetry NFTs are becoming some of the fastest upward trending NFT items in the marketplaces today. Crypto Poetry further increases the collectability of these by creating a community around NFT poetry, promoting collaboration, poetry collections, and visibility both in and out of the community. It’s still early in the game, so now is a great time to get into it. You can also check out our News section for the latest trends and updates in the community.
